The 20-year-old man had entered the enclosure in a bid to commit suicide. He remains in a grave condition at a nearby hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The man, named locally as\u00a0Franco Luis Ferrada Roman, stripped naked and jumped into the enclosure on Saturday morning, in full view of distressed zoo visitors, including a number of children. The <a href=\"http:\/\/dailydigest.com\/lions-injured-fox\/\">lions<\/a> immediately pounced on Roman, and zoo staff were forced to fatally shoot the animal.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5456\" src=\"http:\/\/dailydigest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Lion-suicide-bid-1.jpg\" alt=\"Lion suicide bid 1\" width=\"634\" height=\"481\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to local news, a suicide note was found inside the man&#8217;s pocket. The note was said to refer to an incoming apocalypse as the reason for the man attempting to take his own life. A zoo worker later confirmed that a note was found.<\/p>\n<p>The director of the zoo, Alejandra Montalva, released the following statement:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>&#8220;We believe that this person entered as a visitor and paid for his ticket.\u00a0<span id=\"ext-gen144\">Later he trespassed into an area where the public are not normally allowed and we understand that he forced the roof of the lion&#8217;s enclosure.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"ext-gen135\">It was from there that he jumped, took off his clothes and started to attract the lions.\u00a0<\/span>The zoo has an established protocol because people&#8217;s lives are very important to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailydigest.com\/eu-tell-trump-to-pee-off-over-tariffs\/\">us<\/a>.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Montalva added that\u00a0she was &#8216;deeply affected&#8217; by the deaths of the two lions, but\u00a0that there were no fast-acting tranquilizers available to stop the lions from <a href=\"http:\/\/dailydigest.com\/lioness-stops-lion-from-eating-zookeeper\/\">attacking the man<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5458\" src=\"http:\/\/dailydigest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Lion-suicide-bid-3.jpg\" alt=\"Lion suicide bid 3\" width=\"634\" height=\"353\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A number of witnesses have since spoken to the media.\u00a0Cynthia Vasquez, told a Chilean radio station\u00a0that zoo workers weren&#8217;t quick enough in reacting to the incident. She claims\u00a0that the animals did not attack the man as soon as he entered the enclosure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8220;He entered the enclosure from above and the lions started to play with him, and then after they attacked him,&#8221; she said, before adding that\u00a0the man was &#8220;shouting things about Jesus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"ext-gen138\" class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A father who was visiting the <a href=\"http:\/\/dailydigest.com\/jambo-gorilla-boy-jersey-zoo\/\">zoo<\/a>\u00a0with his young son, told a news channel: &#8216;Everyone started screaming when they saw him.&#8217;\u00a0Another witness added: &#8216;There were a lot of children there, and parents covered their eyes while it was going on.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5457\" src=\"http:\/\/dailydigest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Lion-suicide-bid-2.jpg\" alt=\"Lion suicide bid 2\" width=\"634\" height=\"358\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although he remains in a grave condition, the man is said to no longer be in a life-threatening condition. Dr Sebastian Ugarde, a hospital spokesman, told the media that though he was stable, Roman&#8217;s heart had stopped after the attack.
